Major refurbishment and extension to the former Liverpool Airport Terminal Building to create 4* Hotel accommodation. This project received the RICS International Award for the restoration of an historic building.
The Team:
Client – Neptune (Speke) Ltd
Architect – Falconer Chester Hall
Quantity Surveyor – Tweeds
Design and Build Contractor – Balfour Beatty
M & E Contractor – Davies Consulting
Principal structural/civil engineering works:
The principal structural works included the construction of two new three-storey bedroom wings and the removal of several internal columns to create open plan zones in the Grade 2* listed building for exhibition rooms and function suites.
This required the introduction of ‘storey height’ verendeal steel trusses, using specialist flat-jacks to transfer loads from the existing structure to the new girders prior to demolition, in order to eliminate dead load deflection.
